We first heard about Boykie through an unassuming email asking us to listen to the band’s first release Still Hiding, a gentle natured, reflective track we were hooked on immediately.
Now comes the Perth band’s third single since their formation, Family Man. Honing in on their rhythmic sound, the track ambles along directing the focus of the song towards Sam Stopforth’s vocals and the Cure-esque riff ascension welcoming a state of flux between chorus and verse.
Drawing the listener in further at the beginning of the climax around the 3-minute mark, you start to notice how your swell of emotions match up to atmospheric build before Family Man abruptly ends.
Lyrically, Boykie are one of the strongest bands in the local scene and their folk rock genre right now only proving it further with this release.
Family Man is the last single release before Boykie's debut full length EP to be released later this year.
