Chippy – Ah Trees [Single Review]

Words: Jasmine Uitermark Thaung

Beginning with an ominous reverb packed wave, Perth shoegaze outfit, Ah Trees latest track release, Chippy is a sublime exhibition of their seductive sound.

Promptly joined by an assortment of drums and jangly rhythm, a charm like synth twinkle welcomes frontman Ryan Adair’s vocals onto the plateau as they float and intermingle with the advance of effects. Chippy is pretty cruisey from there onwards as the soaring synths initiate a serious jive contender amongst Ah Trees clear affinity to smooth bass lines.

Making their mark on the spectrum of genres echoing amongst the local music scene, the band’s blend of disco-funk and peppy guitar lines have become a popular addition to the swell of tunes popping up from the undergrowth. It’s no surprise they’re a regular contender on play bills of late.

Join in on the groove and head to The Bird for March 17 where Ah Trees will be launching Chippy. Whether you’ve been dining on Mi-Goreng or a steady diet of burritos, you can fork up the fiver to get in.
