I’ll Never Be a Wife – TEIJ [Single Review]

Words: Jasmine Uitermark-Thaung

TEIJ’s debut single Tell the Boys has been gaining a lot of traction recently as their sultry sound is welcomed by ears a plenty. Their forthcoming track I’ll Never Be a Wife promises even more recognition.

Introducing the track, TEIJ’s blues inspired sound drifts over simple power chords as frontwoman Tahlia Beeson’s vocals saunter over the beat. With Beeson bearing a tone reminiscent of iconic femme fatales of the film noir era, the lyrics of I’ll Never Be a Wife carry an air of female empowerment whilst somewhat embracing a cynical attitude, an outlook many women can identify with.

I’ll Never Be a Wife is easy-listening, wielding determination within its bold lyrics. Musically, the song displays finesse as Beeson’s vocals are backed with strong support from Milroy’s resounding guitar licks. Have a listen to the track below and head to the launch at Indi Bar on Nov 20.
